Georgia Probate and Estate Lawyers
Alpharetta, Georgia Probate Attorneys
Alpharetta has 50,000 residents and was incorporated in 1857. Originally it was the county seat of Milton County, but today the city is located on 21.4 square miles of land in northern Fulton County. In 1932 Alpharetta was moved from Milton County into Fulton County when Fulton and Milton merged in a cost cutting exercise during the Great Depression. The origins of the city’s name are uncertain. There are some who think that the name means “first town” from Greek. Others insist that Alpharetta is an adaptation of an American Indian name, Alfarata. This name was featured in a popular 19th century song called The Blue Juniata. Before the city was incorporated though, the town was known as the New Prospect Camp Ground. Settlers living in the New Prospect Camp Ground had tents as homes and the children were schooled in a log cabin on the grounds. As the town grew, it developed into a trading post where the American Indians and white settlers could sell and swap goods. Despite these modest beginnings, today Alpharetta is one of Georgia’s most prosperous cities. Its success can be partially attributed to the many high–tech companies that make Alpharetta home, such as IBM, Hewlett–Packard, Radiant Systems, Nortel, AT&T, Siemens, General Electric, Hansgrohe, E–Trade and Lexis–Nexis. DeVry Institute of Technology also is located in the Alpharetta, as is a campus of Georgia State University. Alpharetta is one of metropolitan Atlanta’s most far–flung suburbs, but it is convenient to any of three The Libby Law Firm locations in Marietta, Buckhead or Midtown–Atlanta.
