Georgia Probate and Estate Lawyers
Buckhead, Georgia Probate Lawyer
Buckhead is a vibrant and upscale area of Atlanta that was founded in the 1800’s and is located in Fulton County. The area’s history is rich in frontier lore. Henry Irby, from South Carolina originally, had purchased a plot of land in the region for $650. Records show that on this 203–acre parcel Irby built a tavern and general store. The establishment was located on what is today the northwest corner of West Paces Ferry Road and Roswell Road. As one of the only establishments on the frontier, the store and tavern served as a much–needed rest stop for travelers, especially for hunters passing through the area. Over time as settlers began to move into the region, the town became known as Irbyville. It is thought that the name of the town changed to Buckhead when Henry Irby mounted an impressively large buck’s head onto a post of the tavern. Mr. Irby ran the tavern and general store throughout the Civil War era. When he died in 1879 he was buried in the area’s oldest church, the Sardis Methodist Church that was established in 1812. In the late 1800’s someone proposed a name change to Northside Park, but it never gained popularity and the name Buckhead endures today.
Often compared to Beverly Hills in California, Buckhead is ranked currently one of the top ten wealthiest communities in the United States. The area is unincorporated, but as a mixed–use area it has all of the key elements that any city could hope to have. Buckhead consists of high–rise residential and commercial property, several hotels, elegant dining and a wide choice of entertainment and nightlife venues. Buckhead also offers residents and visitors a unique shopping district with the greatest number of luxury boutiques in the country. Besides the glamorous commercial district, the area’s residential zone is dotted with historic mansions nestled in quiet neighborhoods.
